Wag connects pet parents with walkers and sitters. Houndtrust does not. It gives an independent pet-care business the intake, waiver, calendar, updates, and money tools to serve clients it found elsewhere. The price comparison only makes sense after you account for that difference in lead generation.
What the 40% Wag estimate means
NerdWallet's comparison, updated May 6, 2026, says Wag takes 40% of the service value. Wag's current public help pages do not state one universal caregiver percentage. Its provider agreement says the caregiver receives the payout shown when the job attaches, while the pet parent's price may include platform usage fees. Check both numbers in the app.

How to use Wag and Houndtrust without mixing client sources
Wag's current provider agreement says moving a Wag-introduced relationship off-platform can trigger a $500 referral fee for the caregiver. Keep those bookings on Wag. Use Houndtrust for clients who found you independently.
Separate clients by where they found you.
Keep Wag-introduced clients on Wag. Put referrals, website leads, local-group leads, and prior direct clients on your own list.
Build one direct booking link.
Add services, rates, intake questions, your waiver, emergency-vet authorization, payment method, and availability.
Send that link to new direct clients.
They request dates and complete the paperwork from their phone. You review each booking before it reaches your calendar.

Rover also has a selected-city pilot that starts each new client at 30%, then drops to 15% and 10%. The platforms describe and display their prices differently, so compare the caregiver payout with the pet parent's total for the same service.
Does Houndtrust take a cut of my bookings like Wag?
Houndtrust is software, not a marketplace, so it charges no marketplace booking commission on clients you bring. Flexible is $0 per month with five manual booking completions per month and a $5 fee once per qualifying completed Houndtrust card booking. Card bookings bypass that allowance. Solo is $24 per month at the current founding price, has unlimited manual booking completions, and has no $5 Flexible fee. Connected cards also carry a separate 1.5% automation fee on the care subtotal, plus Stripe processing fees.
Can I keep using Wag for new clients and run the rest on Houndtrust?
Yes, if you separate clients by source. Keep every Wag-introduced relationship on Wag.
